Neutral Good Cleric/Ranger

Created By

Bill Hartman

Byric is the son of a sheep hearder. When he was young, his father and brother were attacked by a werewolf. His father was killed and his brother infected with lycanthropy. The locals killed his brother when the curse first manifested. Due to this trauma Byric hates all lycanthropes (good or evil). He even avoids "normal" canines.

After this his mother took work as a servant in a local lord's estate. It was here he apprenticed to the estate's Huntmaster/Warden and learned his skills as a ranger, spending most of his time tracking down poachers and cattle thieves.

Plauged by nightmares, Byric is convinced he is doomed to meet the same fate as his father. However, at the sametime, he is commited to not allow this to happen to anyone else.

He will hunt down and kill lycantropes when he can, all the while regretting the grim necessity of it; feeling great remorse for the human life that was lost, but knowing it is the only way to put thier cursed soul to rest.

Byric tends to fight in an all-out, desperate manner. He throws himself fully into a fight. Either he's simply desperate to meet his end and elude his fate or he is unconciously seeking his own death. Yet he is very aware of the safety of others and would not hesitate to come to the aid of friend or stranger.

While he enjoys the company of others for brief peroids (he tends to drink a lot, too) Byric will lapse into quiet, withdrawn moods. He is friendly but trys not to keep too close of a relationship with anyone. This is most likely due to his fear that he will endanger them if he were to contract lycanthropy in his travels.

Seeking the strength of his goddess Kallissa to aid him in his hunt, Byric believes that he does her will by fighting and killing abominations of nature (esp. lycanthropes). He pays some homage to Chiradan, the protector of farmers and herdsman, however Kallissa is who he serves.

After leaving his lord's estate, Byric wandered for a number of months not really knowing what he was looking for. As time passed he fell deeper into depression and despair. Then one day he met Brother Alanon. Byric talked with Alanon for hours, discussing the past and asking many questions about religion and the goddess of nature. Before the night turn to dawn Kallissa had a new follower.

Byric traveled with the old druid, learning what he could. They quickly became friends and within the year Byric was ordained as a preist.

It is five years later, Alanon has passed on, and Byric now finds himself in the company of his two traveling companions.
